Charge
On 21 July 2016 the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal considered a charge laid by the Director of Proceedings against Mr R, registered nurse (the Nurse).
The charge alleged that the Nurse engaged in sexual intercourse with a mental health patient and he provided her with alcohol when he knew she had alcohol related health issues. It alleged that the conduct was malpractice and/or negligence and brought discredit to the nursing profession.
Finding
The Tribunal was satisfied that the charges were made out and professional misconduct had been established in this case and that it warranted disciplinary sanction.
Penalty
The Tribunal censured the Nurse, cancelled his registration, and ordered $9,920.10 be paid as a contribution towards the costs of the Tribunal and PCC.
* The Tribunal ordered name suppression of the practitioner, his place of residence, his place of work and any identifying features.
